Choosing a POS for Hotel Restaurants, Bars and Pool Outlets
By the HospitalityStack editors · written from hotel & resort F&B experience
Hotels are different
A hotel POS has to post charges to guest folios, handle several outlets (restaurant, lobby bar, pool, in-room dining, banquets), and respect property-wide reporting and service-charge rules. Many restaurant-first systems handle this through integrations, and enterprise hotel systems build it in.
Must-haves
Real-time PMS posting (room charge) with name and room lookup. Outlet-level menus and revenue centers. Handhelds for outdoor service. Offline mode. Support for auto-gratuity and service charges. Consolidated reporting across outlets.
Enterprise vs. cloud restaurant POS
Enterprise systems such as Oracle Simphony and Agilysys are common at large resorts and casinos. Cloud restaurant POS systems such as Toast, Square and SpotOn are popular with independent and boutique properties. Before you sign, confirm the integration with your specific PMS.
Shortlisting steps
List every outlet and how each one takes payment. Map your PMS and accounting integrations. Demo with your real menu, outdoors, in the sun. Get total cost in writing: hardware, software, processing and per-transaction fees. Pilot in one outlet. Browse POS & Ordering.
